NGC Unknown Matters consists of 2 artist's books, 3 brooches and 2 pendants.
All matter is made up of vibrating mini-strings. It's energy. The matter of galaxies, consisting of stars, gas and dust, coincides with ordinary matter and galactic mass. There is, however, invisible matter, called dark matter, which is part of the galaxy itself and extends beyond its apparent boundaries. It contains much more mass than ordinary, visible matter. The spatial geometry of the universe and its evolution are determined by the union of these two matters and the energies they contain. The gravitational field moves, undulates like the sea, bends, twists like a mollusk. The gravitational field is something alive, and all matter made up of a billion galaxies, nebulae and billions of stars and planets is immersed in this infinite gravitational field... as well as light traveling within it is made up of tiny particles traveling through the universe immersed in this infinitesimal quantum field of which space and even matter is composed. The NGC (New General Catalogue) is the most famous and widely used catalog of deep sky objects in astronomy. It contains about 8,000 objects and is one of the most comprehensive catalogs containing all types of objects.
The project explores 6 dark nebulae and 6 diffuse nebulae, mixed through orbits, lights, unknown agglomerates, matter dust, and released in shape of two artists books. The arising jewels are like agglomerates of energy, similar to black holes. The oxidized metals that make them up partially take up some of the powder metals contained in these nebulae. The physical technique of these works derives from the act of introducing, and then releasing, air from a small porcelain-covered balloon. Human bodies and celestial bodies have never been so close. By invoking breath as a state of presence through an empty volume, the astrophysics theme of the NGC (New General Catalogue) is investigated from a bodily point of view. Breath represents the vital charge of every living being of cosmos.
Materials | Techniques: copper, brass, acids, paper, porcelain, mix media.
